Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Desktop is the top Linux hybrid cloud platform because it leads innovative edge computing. It extends the hybrid cloud for enterprises, operations, and providers to the datasource and end user. It simplifies image creation while reducing update sizes and unnecessary downtime to deploy RHEL on the edge of disconnected bare metal.

RHEL 8.6 Desktop includes updated container tools Podman 3.0, Buildah 1.9, Skopeo 1.2, and more. Podman includes auto update for containers. Container images and containerized applications are updated by reduced footprint size and attack surfaces. Additionally, Red Hat’s new Universal Base Image provides a smaller base container image than the previous minimum.

RHEL 8.6 Desktop modernizes your enterprise with updated application streams that leverage the most recent database technology. These include PostgreSQL 13, Redis 6, and MariaDB 10.5. PostgreSQL 13 improves database performance, especially for cloud. Redis 6 boosts performance by enhancing database security and client-side caching. MariaDB 10.5 leverages new database features in app building. Updates to RHEL application runtime includes Python 3.9, Go 1.15, Rust 1.49, and LLVM toolset.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Desktop includes Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) and Mandatory Access Controls (MAC). These built-in security features help meet regulatory compliance. RHEL is the first Linux container framework support to be Common Criteria certified. It is also FIPS 140-2 certified.
