BackBox features an integrated “anonymous mode” to protect user privacy online. The anonymizing Tor proxy prevents online activity surveillance. Your system is untraceable because the MAC address and hostname are constantly changed inside the Local Area Network (LAN). The integration of Bleachbit automatically logs and wipes disk space to optimize computer performance while conserving privacy. The “RAM wipe” function protects files from data recovery software and can be configured to execute upon shutdown or rebooting. Full hard disk encryption is available by using Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS) on the Logical Volume Manager (LVM) during installation.
Back Box is compatible with the amd64 (x86_64) 64-bit processor architecture only, and now supports AMD Ryzen, AMD Navi, and AMD Radeon Instinct Graphics Processing Units (GPU). VirtualBox and VMWare instances are available; the ISO image is compatible with UEFI systems. BackBox is pre-installed with tools including Ettercap, Wireshark, Zenmap, Nmap, Openvas, SQLmap, TCPdump, Metasploit, John the Ripper, and more.
BackBox 7 introduces software updates to most pentesting programs and upgrades the Linux kernel to version 5.4. The latest Xfce desktop window manager version 14.4 allows full customization of the environment.
